Deutsche Telekom to launch cloud gaming service MagentaGaming

(Telecompaper) MagentaGaming enables users to play video games independently of their PC or console. The computing power originates from the cloud and the games are streamed on devices. It works on Windows PCs (Windows 7, 8 and 10), Mac (MacOS X) and Android devices. Telkom plans to use it for iOS and Xbox, too. Controllers can be connected via Bluetooth, WLAN or USB. 

Blue Label delays FY results, warns of 20% drop in headline earnings

(Telecompaper) South African company Blue Label Telecoms will delay publication of its full-year financial results until 26 September to deal with various issues related to the mobile operator’s recapitalisation and restructuring. Blue Label had been expected to publish its results in late August. It has warned shareholders that it expects headline earnings for the year ended May to be down by at least 20 percent year on year, as it tries to quantify the impact of Cell C’s financial woes on its balance sheet. 

Canadian operators say broadband investment at risk from cut in wholesale rates

(Telecompaper) Canada’s fixed operators have criticised the regulator CRTC’s decision to lower wholesale rates and announced charges to account for the reduced prices. Bell announced the regulator’s order will have an around CAD 100 million impact, Rogers plans a charge of CAD 140 million to account for the retroactive cut in rates, and Cogeco said it will cost the company CAD 25 million. They are all reviewing investment plans after the decision.
