Telstra’s FY profit plunges nearly 40%, EBITDA down 21% on NBN impact

(Telecompaper) According to Telstra, the largest reason for the decline in EBITDA was the impact of the NBN. To date, Telstra estimates the NBN has adversely impacted EBITDA by AUD 1.7 billion since FY16. The operator also estimates it is around 50 percent of the way through the recurring financial impact of the NBN.

Lenovo doubles quarterly profits on cost cuts, strong PC sales

(Telecompaper) Lenovo nearly doubled its operating profit in the fiscal first quarter to June, thanks to improved profitability across all its divisions. Revenues were up 5 percent to USD 12.5 billion, driven by the PC business, and the net profit rose to USD 162 million from USD 77 million a year ago. 

Cisco Q4 results top expectations, sees slow Q1 sales

(Telecompaper) Cisco reported revenues for its fiscal fourth quarter to July up 6 percent year-on-year to USD 13.4 billion. However, the company warned that growth will slow in the first quarter to October, due in part to the US-China trade tensions.

Tencent revenue growth improves to 21% in Q2 as more games released

(Telecompaper) Tencent reported second-quarter revenues up 21 percent year-on-year to CNY 88.8 billion (USD 12.9 billion), accelerating growth from 16 percent in the first quarter. Its games business returned to revenue growth of 8 percent, and Tencent also benefitted from expansion in video streaming and payment services, offsetting a lowing ad market.
