We’re tuned to acknowledge those open source developers who contribute by adding new lines of code, but what about those who perform the equally or more important task of deleting cruft?

Axiata expects to beat FY guidance after strong Q2 growth

(Telecompaper) Axiata said its ‘Shifting Gear’ strategy launched at the end of 2018 is starting to bear fruit, with a solid improvement in Q2 results. Revenues rose 3.7 percent year-on-year to MYR 6.2 billion, EBITDA increased 13.1 percent to MYR 2.3 billion, and net profit improved 12.2 percent to MYR 250 million. 

Apple apologises for listening into Siri, plans opt-in to ensure privacy

(Telecompaper) Apple has apologised to users for listening in to their conversations over its digital assistant Siri. The company said it’s halted the practice of reviewing Siri audio recordings, but will resume later this year under stricter privacy controls, so it can continue to improve the voice-activated service. 

Huawei may launch Mate 30 without Google apps

(Telecompaper) Huawei may launch its next flagship smartphone next month without being able to offer Google’s official Android operating system and apps, company executives told Reuters. The company is set to unveil its new Mate 30 line of phones on 18 September in Munich, a source familiar with the matter said. 

T-Mobile US relaunches Test Drive offer, starts campaign on 600 MHz network

(Telecompaper) T-Mobile US is relaunching its Test Drive offer, allowing new customers to try out its network free for a longer 30 days free. Rather than using a second phone, they will receive a Coolpad Surf Device hotspot to test the network, including support for T-Mobile’s new 600 MHz frequencies. The trial is limited to 30 days or 30 GB, whichever comes first, with no charge for the customer.
