Du names Telia’s Dennelind as new CEO from 2020

(Telecompaper) UAE operator Du has appointed industry veteran Johan Dennelind as chief executive, replacing Osman Sultan after almost fourteen years at the helm of the company. He joins from Telia, where he is currently group chief executive. Dennelind will take charge of the telecom operator in early 2020.

Proximus CEO Leroy to stand down early from 20 September

(Telecompaper) The CEO of Belgian operator Proximus, Dominique Leroy is leaving the company on 20 September, rather than 01 December as originally planned. Her early departure for a job at KPN follows pressure from unions, who called the new job a conflict of interest. 

Digi Hungary left out of Hungarian 5G auction

(Telecompaper) Hungarian telecom authority NMHH approved Magyar Telekom, Telenor Hungary and Vodafone Hungary’s participation in the 5G spectrum auction. However, the watchdog said it didn’t admit Digi Hungary’s application as the operator failed to meet the auction’s eligibility criteria. Digi Hungary’s parent company Digi Communications said it will contest NMHH’s decision in court. Digi deemed NMHH’s move as “unfair and without legal grounds.”

Disney CEO leaves Apple board

(Telecompaper) Disney’s CEO Bob Iger has resigned from Apple’s board of directors, the company announced in a SEC filing. No reason for the departure was given, but it may be due to the growing overlap in services at the company, as both prepare to launch new streaming video services in the coming months.

(Telecompaper) Last week, Naspers listed its consumer internet unit Prosus in Amsterdam. Walt Disney unexpectedly launched its much anticipated Disney+ service in a single country, the Netherlands, for a free trial until the official launch date in November. Naspers, as a result of the partial spin-off of Prosus, lost 30 percent in week 37. Other than that, IAC was the biggest loser, down 7.1 percent. The winners included Salem Media (+22%), comScore (+16%) and ProSieben (+15%). Our Global Media index was up 0.5 percent for the week, against a gain of 1.0 percent for the S&P 500 index.
