Elliott Management calls for turnaround plan at AT&T

(Telecompaper) The activist investor Elliott Management has launched a call for a strategic rethink at AT&T, saying it has a plan to turnaround the company’s business and end the stock’s underperformance. After buying USD 3.2 billion worth of AT&T’s shares, one of its largest investments ever, Elliott said it sees as much as 65 percent upside in the share price by 2021 and wants to work with AT&T to implement the plan. 

China Unicom, Telecom confirm plans to cooperate on 5G network build

(Telecompaper) China Unicom and China Telecom have confirmed plans to cooperate on building a national 5G network. They plan to co-build one 5G access network nationwide, with each operator taking responsibility for construction in certain regions. The cooperation is expected to accelerate the roll-out of 5G services and reduce costs.

US states attorneys to launch Facebook and Google antitrust probes

(Telecompaper) Top state law-enforcement officials across the United States are formally opening antitrust investigations into Facebook and Alphabet’s Google, confirming recent reports. New York’s attorney general Letitia James said her office is organising a bipartisan, multistate antitrust probe into whether Facebook stifled competition and put users at risk. Separately, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office said it was launching a probe of “large tech companies” without yet naming them.
