European mobile payment systems form industry association

(Telecompaper) Swiss mobile payment service provider Twint announced the formation of the European Mobile Payment Systems Association (EMPSA), which will be based in Zurich. The other members are the nationally launched payment systems of Belgium (Bancontact Payconiq Company), Germany/Austria (Bluecode), Finland/Denmark (MobilePay), Portugal (SIBS/MB Way), Sweden (Swish) and Norway (Vipps).

Airtel launches Xstream converged entertainment platform

(Telecompaper) Airtel Xstream brings hundreds of satellite TV channels, tens of thousands of movies and shows in English, Hindi and multiple Indian languages, millions of songs, plus access to OTT entertainment apps on one platform. Customers will have access to all this content on TV, PC, and smartphone with a single UI. According to Airtel, Xstream devices will be the IoT gateway for enabling a range of services for connected homes.

Samsung unveils first ‘mid-range’ 5G smartphone

(Telecompaper) Samsung has unveiled the first 5G phone in its mid-range Galaxy A series just a few weeks after launching the flagship Galaxy S10 5G and Galaxy Note 10 5G devices. In a statement, Samsung said the new Galaxy A90 5G will offer future-proof connectivity at a more affordable price that will be officially announced when the handset is launched in South Korea on 04 September, before expanding to additional markets thereafter. The company did reveal that the handset comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset together with a 6.7-inch FHD+ (1,080 x 2,400) Amoled display.
