Oracle planning ‘aggressive’ push into the cloud, with 2,000 new hires

(Telecompaper) Oracle is planning an “aggressive” push into the cloud, with plans to hire almost 2,000 new employees and to invest in more real estate to support that new workforce. The new employees will boost the company’s Oracle Cloud Infrastructure operations. The new roles will include software development, cloud operations, and business operations and help Oracle roll out new product innovations and expand to new cloud regions.

Essential unveils new Project Gem smartphone

(Telecompaper) Essential Products, the smartphone maker founded by Android creator Andy Rubin, has after a long absence from the news circuit unveiled its Project Gem smartphone, with a completely different form factor, the Verge reported, citing Tweets from Rubin. The phones sports a very long and thin shape and user interface (UI). The touch screen has large buttons plus a real button and volume bar on the right edge. It sports a fingerprint divot in the back, below what appears to be a single main camera. The phone comes in a series of bright and shifting colours.
