China Mobile improves EBITDA, prepares for 5G as revenues dip lower in H1
(Telecompaper) China Mobile reported revenues down 0.6 percent to CNY 389.4 billion, as government pressure to reduce prices and tough competition weighed on results. EBITDA still grew 3.6 percent to CNY 151.1 billion, good for a margin of 38.8 percent, up 1.6 percent points.
Xiaomi developing 108-megapixel smartphone camera with Samsung
(Telecompaper) Xiaomi announced at its “Images of the Future” conference in Beijing that it’s working with Samsung to develop a 108-megapixel camera sensor for inclusion in future phones. In a statement, Xiaomi said the 108MP “ultra-clear” image sensor, the world’s highest-resolution smartphone camera sensor, will be capable of producing photos with a resolution of 12,032 x 9,024 pixels, maintaining a picture quality of 27MP in 2x zoom, which more than doubles the pixels of a standard 12MP telephoto camera. No additional information was provided other than the claim that the sensor is “coming soon”.
