Telefonica in talks with TIM and Claro to buy Oi – report

(Telecompaper) Spanish operator Telefonica is negotiating an agreement with its two main rivals in the Brazilian market, America Movil and TIM, to jointly purchase the assets of Oi, sources close to the process told Spanish daily Expansion. The idea is to jointly buy the Brazilian operator and then distribute the assets. Telefonica may also try to reach an agreement only with TIM, since the advantages of the purchase for both are greater than in the case of America Movil, which recently acquired Nextel Brasil and its frequency spectrum.

France announces first eleven projects for 5G trials in 26 GHz band

(Telecompaper) The award of 5G trial spectrum in the 26 GHz band, unveiled by French regulator Arcep in January, has led to the green light for the first eleven initiatives put forward by industry players. The government and Arcep had invited applications for projects that would create 5G pilot platforms open to third parties, with the aim to encourage involvement in the trials from companies outside the telecom sector.

KPN successfully tests 5G network between Rotterdam and the Hague

(Telecompaper) KPN said it has successfully tested its 5G network between different locations in the Netherlands. The company made phone and video calls and held data sessions between its 5G FieldLab in the Port of Rotterdam and its Technology Lab in The Hague, using the 3.5 GHz spectrum band. The tests were made using a number of 5G smartphones, namely the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, the Huawei Mate 20 X and an Oppo Reno 5G. A 10 GBps transmission network was used for the connection and a download speed of 1.3 Gbps was achieved with one of the smartphones.
