Telekom, Telefonica, Vodafone launch Mobile Connect password-free secure login
(Telecompaper) German operators Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica Deutschland and Vodafone Deutschland launched Mobile Connect, a mobile-phone-based login procedure for online portals that enables simple and protected login to internet services on PCs, tablets and mobile phones. All customers need to register is their smartphones and their mobile phone numbers. Their personal mobile number becomes a unique digital identity for internet purchases or registration on online portals. In the future, Mobile Connect could also enable digital visits to government agencies.
Japan Display losses grow to JPY 83 bln in Q1 after asset writedowns
(Telecompaper) Japan Display recorded a net loss of JPY 83.3 billion for its fiscal first quarter to June, widening from a loss of JPY 1.8 billion due to a charge to write-down scrapped production facilities. Revenues fell 12.5 percent to JPY 90.4 billion as the company suffered from reduced smartphone demand and the US-China trade tensions.
Helios Towers mulls listing at possible USD 3 bln valuation – report
(Telecompaper) Helios Towers is reviving plans for an initial public offering, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Its advisers are resuming preparations for an IPO that could value Helios at about USD 3 billion and it is considering filing for the share sale as soon as this year, they said. The tower owner is weighing London and Johannesburg as listing venues, though it has not made a final decision, one of the people said.

KPN leads decline in Dutch TV subscribers in Q2 as Ziggo slows losses
(Telecompaper) KPN lost a net 21,000 subscribers in the three months to June, including 7,000 in IPTV and 14,000 at its digital terrestrial service Digitenne. While the DTT losses are in line with the steady decline in popularity of the service, this is the first quarterly loss in IPTV ever at KPN, according to Telecompaper.
